Our Story

The Meeting Place began in Beaminster. Several people had moved into the town and wanted to find a simple expression of church.

Initially a home group emerged, called House 2 House, and this ran for about 18 months. A few people were keen to continue and a group met fortnightly to pray and to use a form of Biblical meditation called Lectio Divina. This gradually transitioned to become The Meeting Place, a home-based church.

Since then more people have joined us, so currently over 25 people are regularly involved. Over the years, we’ve run Alpha courses for those exploring the Christian faith and had several joint ventures, partnering with other churches.

In recent years we hosted a one-man production, centred on Mark’s Gospel. In the past we’ve also helped the Melbury Anglican Team start a breakfast church in Halstock and provided worship for churches in Chetnole and Portesham. More recently, some of us have also been involved with churches and projects overseas (see Latest News).

We’re keen to partner with others in this area, to see a “light” in every village, to make known the good news of Jesus Christ. To this end, we’re praying with others who have a common vision and seek to support any ventures with that aim.

Our focus is to enable people in The Meeting Place to live out their Christian faith wherever they find themselves, day by day. We attempt to make church life uncomplicated, emphasising prayer, understanding scripture and seeking to support one another as a community of God’s people.
